"Macky" ( is a fish parable)

who eats a whole rat gnawed down to the bristly bone
 is the same that swims in cold pink;

screwing the mouth to the side, he sends a sin streaming
 out of its guts on a lovely 'lil bubble;

nor if he's ever caught on a pike's discarded lure,
eyes poked through, will he ask for grace

For down in the deep end of every lake, among the tads,
stoked and powered by a profligate few

a sinning macky, driven by spite!, will nip at the eel,
even before the tides turn his face

back out towards weeds & rusty hulls But a scaly sot
born to eat silt, likes to creep low,

like a creepy mouth-piece for a world of crud!

"The moon is full"

when the spaces always kill the waves  rolling between them;
when the smelt kissed on the lips

create storms in their head;when the dripped-in-fat lids of a catfish
        will keep it in a perpetual night;

and the cray turfed out of its sandy hole are sometimes first to die

Strangely a lake tosses in the wind til it turns the next page

"Internet love"

Image result for internet love

Not a gambler, not
a bit at odds with deuces,
& good as dead to his first wife

A good even-keeled guy
with an itch & lots of passwords
who arrives late to pay his own rent
by wasting half a day!

And the itch spent,& the path
   to Lil bordered with dragons,mimosa,
he's here, dimples galore,
  grin off-centered and pointing
   to an embarrassingly over-ornate neck

When he's in love, he loves
and it comes creeping in on a screen

Setting a fake Ionic pillar in a semi-arc
of a yard is his own idea
—a virtual work of clip Art!—
and a poem on scant-leaved keys, too
Todd, in chains & cologne,

  updating his profile,
      while Lil
waits in the shadows of a fake temple

Recto tono (for Rosi)

By  the slightest quavering dribbling note of the responsorial,
  you can know her

She's still the dear fantast she ever was or a withering face of  her
  full Avila  heart!

Doddering to the front pew, with a limp wing, she likes to arrive first
  because she always did

and can, on her own still, rise an octave like the Queen even with-
  out a livening voice

and her once whole body.   .

"Why I was dismissed from jury duty"

The accused

sat alone in a glass dock, and couldn't quell the Love in his head!
Female Crown, in long sleek gown, hair black at roots but thinning
for the most part, said smugly to me
"Do you uphold the law for fear
only that more like me won't sit content (at least six) in a jury box,
I mean six females like me?"

"In love", I said," and not knowing how to stop, I think he took her—
  Yes, and is wrongly accused"

"He swept her off a mean street--you mean!- in an unlawful way,"
she said, baring the look of Law

"And for that he sits there, and eyes every juror that passes by"
  I said, "the soft-browed & steely-eyed".

"And were there perhaps a male more, you'd say he'd sit less alone,"
  she replied,more inclined to jeer
"and he is led now  by sugary-voiced Counsel who, with a raised digit,
motions him 'up' or 'down'— ha!"

"I say she was a pretty girl, with chestnut eyes, a cute pug nose,
   and puffy lips", I added;
"you'd have approved of it or not, pulled into the same long roads
  Or perhaps the stars have,
duly overlooked, been mostly to blame for the legal mess he's in
In a tight blouse buttoned tight
braless, too, I believe she'd walked alone into the moon that night"

  But she snapped,"You see differently
or he wouldn't have taken her:she who'd wailed at him, that night
wails now in this place, for me"

"No, she came to him, half-coyly, half-shyly, desirable on silettos,
  offering a mouth, nose—a bliss!—"

"And at about this time and at this place, the stars oversaw a rape—"
  she retorted, visibly red

"No, her hair fell in ringlets, down her face"

"And she who didn't consent, scraping the ground, saying 'Please stop!'
felt the same June heat as he,
excited but angry, almost sweating trying to run in heels from him—"

"No, if he'd been the beast,
as per her story and yours, he'd never had had a brush with hair, eyes"

And as she'd never run from anyone,
herself too strained, maternal, the female Crown dismissed another juror,
  and after that, another

"Tess"

And as being sadly tall among the misty swedes & turnips
she goes to the summit where weeds
spill over an abbey wall, like spidery froth pulled to right or
    left in the breeze,

and she sloshes through the mud (to right or left)and is taken
for an elegant heron in heels,
revelatory without a cause & groundbreaking without a sigh,
and rises like an early apple blooth,

like the most expert bird in the world, & hides in the withy bed
   and avoids every lure imaginable—
Tess the sexless, spotless in one last desperate plea for seed
And as the nature of things is mean,

(certainly as regards the cliffs, milk-thistles and finches)
and she goes angrily but with determination,
blindly but with angels, and as sins of the young shine in streams,
   like hontish stars, and lovers

thrash in the wind, like Tess and her angel, and grieve as if
the skies can squint and glane at them both
& could even melt her down to the shadow of a ring,
shame-faced girl, in her best boots

who looks away from insane abbey walls, veiled, just loved
and lost again in the woods
And as singing her thresher's song she runs and runs again,
til the rains finally fill her

and a four-poster at home, with mistle-toe, can't still the winds,
   slipping in through the cracks
and the figure of a finch, playing at his harp, awaits outside
and Tess's taken from her stone...

Death of the autumn Monarch

It's good to see, borne on the same wing,
both flight and an aery death—

Beyond the impassioned spiny needlefloors,
  by winds coarsed,
it's still good to be a butterfly,
 alone, on a high Rose,
and even flying, it's the lone spectral
flyspeck of the Eye,
and even dying, the unambiguously autumn
  Monarch

Firstly,

as  even cool selves catch on the poppy sun, it rises,
 fairy place where it goes,
& wing for wing  is the equal of any avifauna,
 vivific & bright!
Or surely as it flecks like a shade's partial outer
it blurs into night that it's akin to

And the moonshades too, as if they fell laying
 ever their rigid needle-cold or
petal-tear, give death only as a flash or jaggy leaf.
But we find her come from out
some doddered spider tree, tangled still, spun
 on the day's filthy dreck

Then

And she rises sure, loosening new into worlds.
  Look!
 seer to acacias,pearly bees,
just there as she's about to fade (pine green)
 and to breathe non-being ,
and where wings turn virginal again, red, red.

As if moonshades fell for her, too!

Canatara

(for Colleen)

Even with lethal Tree and indomitable leaf
  the woods
breathe in frost and breathe out
  warm sandy shores,
  a water's cresting scent

A forest is partly eye of the slender girl
  who flits the beaches,
teary heart of a lake enthroned
  in mud, slow settling—
  a forest of frost,
gleaming fruit & elk who maunder

  Given a halo
of mayflies & berry, half sun-glorying,
  half tree-glorying,
  a forest can shine
so far out into brush the bluejay
  lives inside it,
easily with the crow & the hawk cliff

  Acorns lie inside, too
  and the hatching nest

Roots and the mole with arcing back,
  receptive & low,
make a park of a forest, anywhere
  just as the shiny roe
  on all four elfin feet,
lives above all & after all in rain,
  lips berry-stained,
and skims Huron's warm steamy sands
& looks like a lost girl
  sadly banished from the trails

Who is she?

With an elongate rather wet smile, she kisses like a slob!
  But she's a lady

who peeps through the clouds,in her strapless and shawl
  and brooks no lies

And to judge by skin tone and way she hates to face us,
her oily palms up in prayer

  she's sometimes a St. Terese
The cheeks bulge with jack cheese when she says nothing

& parsley sticks to her teeth
Shorelines grow eerie down the length of the beach

  when she is near
And stretched over the sands, she likes to follow in tides

  with her big seedy eye
& fuss around rocks and thistles til she's lost in a fog

She blows out the stars, too
If she only had 'em, she'd probably stand with legs apart,

  looking imperious and cute,
like a wife with her wavy hair tied up in a bun

  Who is she?

Natural remedy

He came at my request, at last. And in reply to my, "What is it?"
said grimly, taking a close look at me—

"Look, it's as if someone's stippled a sunset here, & mixed in ravens;
stars don't shine but snarl and snake

The bass that bite lie dead with their gills open, washed ashore,
and say, 'Take the spinners from my heart'

Jays crowd round jagged edges, or else go careering off by themselves:
I see their crests through skeletal boughs

And in the tree's hempen-shade heartless soulless eyes of crab appear,
or heartless bees under a heartless lily

The sun that tenderly and shyly eggs on shoots, somewhere somehow
leaves a pale soil of roots, blackberries

And where there used to be ash-tree's calm is an oak's monstrous roots,
spongy & scaly, without a drop of resin left"

Sweeping his hand over my back, a final time, he finally said,
in reply to my "What can it be?"

"If it moves low in the night, sprouting oaks along lonely gravel roads,
please, please see me at once."

Diagnosis

Like they'd done before, trees throw their darkness at him
Sad with all those thoughts, & looking thin,
he twists inside so often he makes suns see disease in a bud

The dark, inconsolable ground of god hasn't crumbled either
The storm that's been promised and slowly freshens in his eyes,
  still does

And til he faces it like a fact, head erect, without even caring,
  he won't see the dawn,
or the circle of fields, white with frost, where the geese settle
  in clayey earth
or the road he's loved to run on, freely and wisely, with the wind
  as his shawl
or the sweep of another cloudless horizon, relieved of angry snow

And til a certain gloomy tree, dressed in grey, catches his eye
and the geese don't just graze but rise over him,
green-breasted ones with cool elongate necks, wings taut to the sky,

and til he says, without once crying, that the bigger they grow,
 the smaller he feels,
he'll see himself object of mourning, again taken suddenly from us,
sinking into some deep clayey prayer
