Childspeak

But oh! sun's in the sky and high as a tree,
(says a child of this place!)
and that's too high to see. And so she eats-
and-goes & goes outside,
frantic with bread crumbs on her chin

& colours, some dozen, splashed
across the lawn that like being with her there
(like green on a bee on a leaf!)

and even drop from each eye as she's crying
And asked why she cries,

she puts a Sweet William to her ear, to hear
with its smooth-bladed ear,
and says the nest's stuffed up with fluff,
alone up there, & just fell
and 'honestly' made the fluffiest stuff that
                                          ever fell
